What is the difference between marble and granite

2022-04-09

Marble and granite seem to be very similar building materials, but in fact, the two are very different in terms of appearance, formation reasons, and hardness. Let's take a look.
Marble
1. Different appearance
Marble and granite are very different in appearance.
The color of marble is richer, and the patterns are varied and freehand like a landscape painting.
There is no obvious pattern of granite, and the patterns on the surface are speckled and relatively single.

2. Different reasons

In addition to being very different in appearance, they are formed for very different reasons.
Marble is a metamorphic rock formed by high temperature and high pressure in the earth's crust.
Granite is a magmatic rock formed by spray cooling of magma inside the crust or by cooling of rocks after being melted by high temperature.

3. Different hardness
They also vary widely in hardness
Marble has a lower hardness and is easily eroded by air, rain, etc., so its Mohs hardness is generally 3-5.
The hardness of granite is higher, so it is not easy to process, so its Mohs hardness is generally 6-7.

4. Different scope of use

They also differ greatly in their scope of use.
Marble is generally used for interior decoration, such as: TV background wall, water jet parquet, etc.
Granite is mostly used on the ground in public areas or made into stone fences, car balls, etc.
